What to Expect During your Skin Cancer Screening

Coming into our office for your annual skin cancer screening?

Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancers, so it goes without saying that everyone could benefit from turning to our Chicago, IL, dermatologist Dr. Elizabeth Fahrenbach for a comprehensive skin cancer screening. While you should be evaluating and examining your skin regularly on your own, nothing beats turning to the expert skincare team at North Branch Dermatology to screen for skin cancer.

A Skin Cancer Screening is Fast

Many people put off getting the care they need because they think they’re going to have to take a lot of time out of their day. Even if you need to take time off work, you’ll be relieved to know that getting a simple skin cancer screening from our Chicago, IL, dermatologist Dr. Fahrenback and the team at North Branch Dermatology only takes a few minutes. You can easily schedule a screening on your lunch break and be back in the office in no time.

Here’s What to Expect

So, you’re coming in for your first skin cancer screening and you want to know what to expect. Skin cancer screenings are quick, easy and painless. Once you’ve completed the appropriate paperwork, you will be escorted into one of our private rooms where you will be asked to put on a gown. Our dermatologist will then examine all areas of your body from head to toe, paying close attention to any growths, freckles or moles.

Do I Need a Skin Cancer Screening?

The short answer is yes. Everyone, regardless of risk factors, can benefit from a comprehensive skin cancer evaluation with our Chicago, IL, dermatologist. Of course, those at an increased risk for skin cancer should make these screenings a top priority. Skin cancer risk factors include,

  • Fair skin
  • Blonde or red hair
  • Light eyes
  • Skin that burns easily
  • Having a significant number of moles or freckles
  • History of sunburns or tanning bed use
  • Family history of skin cancer
  • Long periods of sun exposure

You should also schedule a screening with us if you notice any changes in the shape, color or size of a mole. If we are concerned about a changing mole or lesion, we may need to take a tissue sample during your screening for further evaluation.

When was the last time you turned to our Chicago, IL, dermatologist Dr. Fahrenback for your skin cancer screening? If it’s been more than one year since your last evaluation, call North Branch Dermatology today at (773) 763-6000 to schedule your next visit.
