Tired of Wrinkles? We Can Help

Here’s what you need to know about getting Botox.

You’re putting on makeup when suddenly you notice it: those lines around your eyes creeping up. Now you notice those furrow lines appear between your forehead.

While these wrinkles are certainly proof positive of a long, happy life, sometimes they can bug us, as well. Fortunately, your Chicago dermatologist, Dr. Elizabeth Fahrenbach of North Branch Dermatology, can help.

What does Botox do?

Chances are high that you’ve heard of Botox. That’s because it’s a simple, non-invasive, and non-surgical way to smooth away those lines and wrinkles that are visible when you smile. Both men and women turn to our Chicago office for regular or one-time Botox treatments.

Botox uses a very small dose of a neurotoxin that temporarily paralyzes the muscles in the face to prevent muscle contractions responsible for the development of dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles include:

  • Crow’s feet (lines around the eyes)
  • Laugh lines (lines around the mouth and nose)
  • Lines and creases around the chin
  • Forehead lines
  • Vertical fine lines and wrinkles between the eyebrows

How long do results last?

Since it takes Botox a few days to take effect, you won’t see results until about 3-4 days after treatment, with full results appearing within one week of treatment. Botox results typically last about 3-4 months, which makes it a great treatment for someone who is new to the cosmetic world and isn’t sure whether they want to make permanent changes to their appearance. Botox results will fade; however, if you are in love with the way this cosmetic injectable makes you look, then you can come in every few months for maintenance treatments.
